—— WHO THIS IS FOR

Therapy for Highly Sensitive Women who don’t want to be selfish

I work with the deep thinkers. They are intuitive, empathic, and want to make the world a better place. They can spot someone’s feelings a mile away and are tired of taking care of everyone but themselves.

—— THE SPECIFICS

Who This Work Is a Good Fit For

The women I work with are experts at taking care of other people and ignoring themselves. They’re so good at covering up their discomfort that they might not even notice it most of the time. But most of them feel out of place: second-guessing their interactions, and sick of being told that they are “too sensitive,” or even worse, defective. And they never, ever want to be selfish.

What tends to bring you here: You’re noticing the anxiety and discomfort more. It’s getting in the way at work or school, in your romantic relationships (either with your partner or preventing you from having a partner). You know you want more, you’re just not sure what it is or if it’s even out there.

  • Accommodating other people is what you’re best at (but it’s wearing you down)

  • You’ve done the research (and the worksheets), but it’s not cutting it

  • If you’ve been in therapy before, it may have been helpful, but you didn’t quite feel understood

With support, the women I work with start feeling less out of control. They feel more alive and resilient. Criticism lands a little less heavy. Their relationships feel more meaningful. Doing things for themselves stops feeling quite so selfish.

—— BEING DIRECT

When This May Not Be the Right Fit

This isn’t a good fit if you’re in acute psychiatric distress and need a higher level of care (like if you’ve had a recent suicide attempt or are engaging in risky behaviors like mixing alcohol and sleeping pills). It’s not a good fit if you’re looking for a therapist in network with your insurance, if you’re looking for couples therapy, or if you want a short-term and structure-based approach. I work only with adults.

—— THE WORK ITSELF

My Therapeutic Approach and Style

I work psychoanalytically, which means that we’ll be going deep (your strong point). You didn’t get to this point overnight, and you won’t get out of it overnight. The work is at your pace, and I don’t see silence as a sign that something is wrong - there’s a lot happening even if we aren’t saying anything.

I also work psychodynamically, which means that we account for the fact that you are a human being living and raised within many complex structures, many of which are unjust. Your environment has an impact on you.

I offer only individual therapy.
